We’re pleased to announce that our Water Oakley Quarry, adjacent to the A308 Maidenhead to Windsor road near Fifield, has been granted full planning permission by the RBWM for sand and gravel extraction and restoration by infilling. The decision, which was voted unanimously in favour by the planning committee, was granted subject to the satisfactory completion of a section 278 agreement. This means that up to 1.7 million tonnes of sand and gravel will be extracted over a ten year period and will be sent to our processing plant in Monkey Island Lane located less than 1km away. The anticipated start date is June 2021.
The project will protect the jobs of 12 employees and will enable us to fulfil the sand and gravel needs of the local economy, with the majority of the materials produced at the quarry being delivered to customers within a ten mile radius either in loose form or as ready-mixed concrete.
Following completion of all works, a large part of the site will be returned to agricultural use. We will also undertake site restoration works which will include the planting of over 2km of hedge rows, 2,000 trees with further woodland planting and a wetland area which will significantly enhance the biodiversity in the area.
